Artist Statement

My work spans a wide variety of mediums and subjects ranging from painting to pyrography to digital art and the reason is simple, I have been making art my whole life and have yet to find a form I was not infatuated by. Having a multidisciplinary oeuvre is a continuously stimulating and inspiring practice which allows me to explore different methods of expression and interaction with viewers. My primary subjects are bodies in motion and abstract, topographically inspired line work, in designing both types of imagery I use ripple-like mark-making techniques to construct forms and compositions that radiate momentum and energy.

It is important to me that my work be as invigorating for the viewers as the process of creating the work is for me, the artist. This is in part why I am fascinated by the psychological nature of art, specifically as it applies to the viewer’s analysis and reaction to the work. Creating works that are familiar in subject yet unexampled in design allows me to produce work that incites viewers to greater attention, to take an active role in finding meaning the meaning in the work. Ambiguity is excellent kindling for the imagination which is the most important thing I as an artist can share with the world.

About

Since my passion for art first began in early childhood, I have studied, created, published, and exhibited work in the USA, Italy, Ireland, Germany, and Spain.

I am originally from Seattle, WA, and began formally studying art at age fourteen in Jacksonville, FL. I attended college at Suffolk University in Boston, MA and graduated with honors earning a BFA in fine arts and a minor in arts administration. During college I also spent two semesters studying at Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy.

Shortly before graduating from Suffolk in 2019, I went skydiving for the first time which was truly a life-changing experience for me that quickly became a massive source of inspiration in my work. Since my first jump over the brilliantly colorful autumn foliage of New Hampshire, I have completed three other jumps, including two over the Atlantic coast of north Florida, and hope to one day earn my skydivers license.

In 2021 I moved to Leipzig, Germany for an artist residence at Pilotenkuece International Art Program which led to me participating in an additional residency in Leipzig at Undliche Weiten. After the residencies in Germany, I returned to Boston and continued my studio work at SOWA, a collective hub of art galleries and studios located in Boston’s South End where I continued expanding my portfolios of painting, pyrography, and abstract drawings. I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from other Boston artists including the amazing, Katie Southworth.

Currently, I am based in Seattle and am focused on integrating my abstract line work into my figure paintings through the mediums of watercolor, digital drawings, and murals. My inspiration comes largely from my experiences observing geography through travel, skydiving and rhythmic physical movement specifically dance, yoga and of course, skydiving!
